Raleigh, NC, Feb. 18, 2011 — WISER Systems, Inc. has been awarded a prestigious early commercialization grant from a North Carolina State University endowment fund established to bridge pure research and product commercialization for entrepreneurs. The Richard L. and Marlene V. Daugherty Centennial Campus Endowment for Entrepreneurship awarded the company $20,000 to complete the research and development of a WISER Real Time Locating System (RTLS) prototype.

“We are exceedingly grateful for this recognition and for the generosity and support of Dick and Marlene Daugherty and NC State,” Elaine Rideout, the company’s founding CEO, stated. “This critical early-stage research-based financing is simply unavailable elsewhere. It will give us the opportunity to validate our R&D effort with a first working prototype.”

WISER Systems, Inc. is an Internet of Things (IoT) startup located on NC State University’s Centennial Campus. The company, which was originally incorporated around a cell-phone tracking device for locating the CEO’s lost eyeglasses, evolved that basic approach into a sophisticated and precise asset tracking solution for industry.

WISER’s technology leverages off the latest in wireless networking and RF technology, combining three methods for “localization.” The WISER system allows for cost-effective, autonomous, real-time locating of pallets and even their contents during normal handling without labor-intensive hand-scanning, expensive installation and battery management, or doorway portal infrastructure.

The NC State University endowment fund was established by Richard Daugherty, a retired IBM executive who ran the company’s RTP operations for 23 years, to support campus-based technology entrepreneurs. Daugherty is a trustee of the Kenan Institute at NC State, and serves on the board of NC State’s Entrepreneurship Initiative. In addition he’s served as Director of the Research Corporation for NC State’s Centennial Campus and board member of Progress Energy. He received the North Carolina Public Service Award in 1991, the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce’s A.E. Finley Award in 1994, and was named to the Raleigh Hall of Fame in 2014.
